Petzl CHICANE Auxiliary Brake

With the CHICANE, Petzl offers a smart friction device that allows you to use the ZIGZAG or ZIGZAG PLUS on a single rope (SRT). The two integrated friction elements provide additional braking when descending, giving you greater control with every movement. At the same time, smooth rope glide is maintained during ascent — a real advantage on longer climbs in the tree.

Its design is well thought out: the swinging side plate allows for quick rope installation, even in the middle of a job. A triple-action locking mechanism prevents accidental opening, ensuring safety at all times. The CHICANE connects to the ZIGZAG via the upper attachment point, and the use of an H-profile carabiner — such as the Petzl Am'D or OK — is mandatory. This creates a stable, load-bearing system that runs smoothly even during complex or dynamic movements.
