The manufacturer ISC has issued a product support update regarding the REFLEX climbing device. Because your safety is our top priority, here is a quick summary of the essential facts:
The Issue: Accelerated Wear
Some users have reported performance fade and unexpected slippage. ISC's investigation found that certain devices experience accelerated wear on the upper links (the components responsible for gripping the rope). This is not a manufacturing defect, but rather usage-related wear.
Main Causes:
This wear is significantly accelerated by operating conditions such as:
-
Extended or repeated high-speed descents
-
Operation in dirty, gritty, or abrasive environments
-
Lack of additional friction (where appropriate) or dirty ropes
What do you need to do?
-
Inspect Regularly: Do not rely solely on the device's age or time-in-service. Pay close attention to any changes in grabbing performance.
-
Safety First: If your REFLEX exhibits slippage or performance degradation that cannot be resolved by cleaning, remove the device from service immediately and contact ISC!
ISC is actively working on long-term solutions and is committed to supporting affected customers.
