Tango: From Climbing Shoes to Own Brand for Tree Care

The Tango brand originated from the necessity to create a work shoe specifically tailored to the requirements of tree climbing. Before Tango, there was no shoe on the market that met these specific needs. Often, trekking or approach shoes from mountain sports or cut-protection boots were used, which, however, either wore out quickly or were too heavy and inflexible for climbing trees.

In 2009, Friedrich Drayer, in collaboration with an Italian shoe manufacturer, developed the first climbing shoe specifically for tree care professionals, named Tango. This shoe offered comfort, secure hold, and outstanding grip in trees, thanks to a soft rubber compound in the sole. Despite initial challenges with the sole's durability, continuous improvements led to the development of the Tango Vi with a more durable and flexible Vibram sole.

Since then, Tango has evolved into a comprehensive brand for tree care products. The product range includes climbing ropes, prusik loops, static ropes, chainsaw strops, rigging rings, cut-protection shoes, and much more. Particularly notable are the textile eyelets for lacing found in all Tango shoes, including the Tango Extreme cut-protection shoe and the Tango light.

The Tango brand, originally intended only for shoes, was eventually used for a variety of own products and has established itself as an independent brand since 2014. With a constantly growing product range and the continuous implementation of new ideas, Tango remains at the forefront of innovation in tree care. It will be interesting to see what innovations Friedrich Drayer will present next.
